Goal Status: Detoxify

(source)

I would say, overall, the detox diet was a success. My one transgression (we’ll get to the early quit in a minute) was a chai latte on Monday morning because my editor brought it — and I didn’t want to be rude! :) (Original post with the detox diet)

The first couple of days were great. I wasn’t hungry at all, if anything, I was tired of having to eat so often! I had to urinate constantly. That was a little annoying (being on deadline and all) but I knew it was because my body was expelling all those nasty toxins.

The food was surprisingly good, though it didn’t look good. Exhibit A & B (C would have just been a smoothie — at that point I had said F#%! it to photographing ugly food.)

The steamed salmon with steamed kale, the detox teriyaki chicken with steamed kale & brown rice.

I didn’t photoshop these at all, in the interest of science, of course!

So, if everything was going so well, why did I quit early?

I realized I had no energy, I slept way past my alarm, I’d dropped five pounds in three days, and my thinking had become cloudy. Seriously, even typing this is difficult.

I think this is a great diet for someone who wants to detox and drop lbs like crazy in a healthy-ish way, but as a lifestyle choice … I couldn’t do it.

Granted, I tried the lemonade diet and only made it a few hours, so this was definitely something I’ll do again, but probably not for a whole week.

What I took from the Detox Diet:

Blueberry and protein smoothies are going to become a regular part of my day. They’re not only tasty, but they fill you up, and you get all those awesome anti-oxidants! Plus, I’m notoriously bad about skipping breakfast, and it’s true what they say…

Lean meals with steamed veggies twice a week are doable, and can contribute to overall weight maintenance. Both my husband and I have struggled with weight gain over the last few years, so this is a switch we’re going to make for life.

Lots of water, and coconut water! This week Caitlin at The Healthy Tipping Point waxed poetic about coconut water, and I was saying “amen, sister!” Coconut water is sooo good for you and tastes awesome. I’ll let her give you the nutritional run-down, but I think 4 oz./day is totally worth the $2.50/8 oz. price tag.

Green smoothies are yummy. I think doing 2-3 green smoothies throughout the week is a good goal for health. It gets those extra vegetable in when all I want is a burger!

So, in conclusion, the Detox Diet was a success. It changed the way I viewed my diet, it shaved a few pounds off (B thinks it came off my face, which is disturbing! But I’ll keep you posted on how long they stay off — ha!), and it encouraged B and I to incorporate some healthier elements into our weekly menu!

Oh, but that three-work-outs-thing? Did I mention I’m sleeeeeepy?

I just read over this detox diet. No wonder Gwenyth is so skinny…and people think she’s mean, but she’s probably just hungry/tired! :)

Even though you got so tired, I’m thinking about doing this. There’s a smoothie place just down the street from my work, so I could probably do smoothies off their menu.

Yeah, it wasn’t bad at all, I just get grumpy if my blood sugar is low! Do it!

You’ve got me thinking about this whole detox thing… and the steamed veg and lean meats look so good!
