Goal of the Week: Detoxify!

(Image: Stock.xchng)

I’ve been feeling very sluggish and tired lately. I can’t say I know for sure that it’s because of toxins in my body, but between the allergy meds, the week of SXSW take-out, and the SWSX drinking, I’m feeling less than fantastic.

So, I gave myself the goal this week of detoxifying with diet and exercise.

I chose the GOOP detox plan set up by Gwenyth Paltrow’s doctor, then tweaked it to better fit my budget. (Still, groceries were twice what they normally are — don’t get me started on why healthy food is so expensive, or this might turn into a rant.)

DAY ONE

7am (or upon rising): Glass of room temperature lemon water
8am: Herbal tea
10am (breakfast): Blueberry and Almond Smoothie
11:30am: Coconut water
1:30pm (lunch): Raw crudite (carrots, green beans, radishes, cucumbers, zucchini) with Carrot and Ginger Dressing
4pm (snack): A handful of mixed pumpkin and sunflower seeds
6pm (dinner): Steamed Salmon and Greens

8am: Herbal tea
10am (breakfast): Blueberry and Almond Smoothie
11:30am: Coconut water
1:30pm (lunch): Miso Soup with Watercress
4pm (snack): A handful of almonds
6pm (dinner): Detox Teriyaki Chicken, brown rice, steamed zucchini

DAY FOUR

7am (or upon rising): Glass of room temperature lemon water
8am: Herbal tea

*The program is actually designed for seven days, but B and I have a date on Sunday night :)

I’ve also gotten very lazy about working out, in fact it’s been two weeks (shame, shame!) so my secondary goal is to get at least three good workouts in this week as well.

Wish me luck!

What’s your big goal for the week?

This sounds amazing!! I don’t think I have the patience for this.

So far, so good. At least you get to eat on this one! I did the
lemonade cleanse one time and I thought I was going to murder my
husband. We were both so cranky that week!

Hi Jess! First of all … I don’t think I’ve ever adequately shared how CUTE your blog is. Really. If it were a girl at the supermarket, I’d totally grin at her.

Anyway, cleansing — good for you. I’ve tried Master Cleanse 2-3 times, which is probably the lemonade one you reference below. And I was basically homicidal. A friend of mine is reading/doing Clean, by Alexander Junger, and is kind of evangelistic about it. I’ll be so curious to read about your experience with GOOP! It actually sounds kind of yummy. How are you feeling, energy / hunger-wise?

Good for you! This is the time of year I usually take one of these on but I’ve been dragging my feet and downing Easter candy :) You’ve inspired me to get busy, though!

Tolly, Thank you! I’m a big fan of your blog as well, you are just the cutest :)

Right on with the lemonade diet — I was lucky I didn’t end up snapping
my husband’s neck. Not a good space. The Clean diet is a lot more
do-able. I’m actually eating more than I normally would, so energy is
high. I can’t say I enjoy eating steamed salmon and greens for dinner,
but it could be worse! I definitely suggest giving it a try if you’re
    feeling blah from SXSW. xoxo

Girl, do it! I’ve been scarfing down those Cadbury Mini-Eggs…
luckily they’re only 215 calories/per pack, so it hasn’t been too
depressing! Day two and what do I miss the most? My happy hour drink
    with chips & salsa… only 4 days to go…

I hope this is going well. Sounds well thought out .. so should be good, I hope? :)

Good so far! I’m eating more and healthier than I normally do, which
is nice, but I don’t think it could be a major lifestyle change. A
    week is just fine. :)

[...] I would say, overall, the detox diet was a success. My one transgression (we’ll get to the early quit in a minute) was a chai latte on Monday morning because my editor brought it — and I didn’t want to be rude! :) (Original post with the detox diet) [...]

Wow, I want tok try this. Did it take a lot of time to prepare stuff?

  • http://www.hellowifeonline.com Jess

Not really, I put the smoothies together before bed so they would be
ready in the morning, and the dinners were a snap. (30 mins) The only
thing that took a while was the green smoothie, but you totes don’t
    have to do that one!
