Beachin’ It

Occasion: Fort Pickens with the Family
Shirt: XXI | Skirt: American Apparel | Shoes: Ross (Children’s department) | Belt: Gift, Vintage

We’re enjoying a nice break with my family in Pensacola, Florida this week. There’s so many forts, historical sites, and museums here, it’s a history buff’s paradise. (And we’re both huge history nerds!)

This was taken at Fort Pickens on Pensacola beach. It’s a fort from the civil war era, and is the perfect spot for photo shoots. We’ll be going back later, because the weather was less-than-cooperative when we went yesterday. I’ll definitely be bringing the tripod. :)

What’s your favorite part about vacations? Are you a “lay on the beach” type of person, a “local culture connoisseur”, or something else? I think I fall into the “museum and food nerd” category myself.

Bastille Day

(image via Annie Ray)

We went to the “Paris Calling” Bastille Day celebration at Justine’s last weekend. I love a reason to put on a costume! The theme was red, white, and blue French/punk. I went more “Japanese punk,” B said. Whatevs, I got to dress cute and got to see everyone’s amazing costumes.

Unfortunately it was super dark, so we didn’t get any other pictures at the event, but I snapped a quick shot in the mirror before we left. In fact, I noticed I’ve been doing this as a way of determining if I like my outfit or not… Guess I’m sort of addicted to the camera, rather than the mirror.

I’m getting pretty amped up for Halloween (my favorite holiday — we weren’t allowed to celebrate as kids!), and saw that Party City over on North I-35 has a bunch of costumes for $15. Get thee to a Party City. I still haven’t decided what to be this year. Here’s the last few years:

• A Zombie Pinup girl
• The “Golden Parachute Fairy”
Ashley Todd
• Eddie Sedgwick
• A Flapper

What was your favorite Halloween costume? What are you going as this year?

Weekendings

How was your weekend? I started mine with a waitress shift, but after that nonesense, I moved on to more important things: socializing on the Eastside.

I love, love, love all the businesses on the Eastside. They’re all quirky, and unique, and — generally — well-priced. There’s lots of nice, outdoor spaces with big enough tables to accommodate large groups. My last several birthdays have been rung in on the Eastside, and it’s my location of choice for grabbing a beer.

Occasion: Drinks at Rio Rita’s/Gypsy Lounge with friends
Tank: XXI | Scarf: Italian silk, a gift from Courtney A. | Feathers: Mana Culture
Shorts: Volcom, thrifted | Boots: Jessica Simpson, Nordstrom | Ring: Charming Charlie

What’s your favorite part of town?

Bored on the 4th of July

Occasion: 4th of July Party
Shirt & Shorts: XXI | Belt: Vintage | Shoes: Khol’s | Bikini: Guess

I’m loving over-sized shirts this summer. They’re much more comfortable to wear in 108º heat, afterall, and they make me feel bikini-worthy, even after a big meal.

I had no idea these shorts were so short.

For the Love of Shoes

So, I am guilty of committing a blogger crime yesterday: I posted photos, exclaimed joyfully about a pair of shoes, and didn’t have a decent enough photo of them to post, so I didn’t show them. Thank you to Laura over at Darling Lola and Laurel over at Trophy Boutique for crying “injustice!”

Lesson learned, ladies.

So, in search of penance, I submit to you, fine ladies, this small, humble photo shoot, done fifteen minutes ago, in my pajamas, in my front lawn. I hope it pleases you. :)

Flowers and Scars

Occasion: Spiderhouse with B
Tank: Target | Jeans: Vintage
Flower Pin: C/O Otis and James | Belt: Vintage

I was crazy-excited when I won the Otis and James giveaway on Lemondrop Vintage a while back. I never win anything! I was allowed to pick something from their Etsy store, so I chose this adrobs little yellow flower pin. I loved the packaging! Thank you!!

It’s the details that matter, people.

So, I’ve been living in these long and lean tanks from Target. I bought three of them, and whilst healing from a mole I had removed, (cancer-free! woohoo!) all three of them have ended up with the scar medication stains, right in the middle. So, I’ve resolved to just keep wearing them until I’m done with the scarring process, and then replace them. Meanwhile, because I’m wearing them so much, they’ve been stained with all sorts of other things… bah.

Do you have any cool scars?

The Mean Reds

Holly Golightly: You know those days when you get the mean reds?
Paul Varjak: The mean reds, you mean like the blues?
Holly Golightly: No. The blues are because you’re getting fat and maybe it’s been raining too long, you’re just sad that’s all. The mean reds are horrible. Suddenly you’re afraid and you don’t know what you’re afraid of. Do you ever get that feeling?
Paul Varjak: Sure.
Holly Golightly: Well, when I get it the only thing that does any good is to jump in a cab and go to Tiffany’s. Calms me down right away. The quietness and the proud look of it; nothing very bad could happen to you there. If I could find a real-life place that’d make me feel like Tiffany’s, then – then I’d buy some furniture and give the cat a name!

I’ve been in a funk. Technically, I’m still in the funk, but I’m working on getting out of it.

Occasion: Work on Monday
Tank: Target’s Long and Lean | Skirt: BDG (OU) | Belt: Anthropologie
Boots: Jessica Simpson (Nordstrom) | Cuff: Charming Charlie | New haircut courtesy Francisco’s Salon in ATX

How do you pull yourself out of a funk?

Bloggers Do It Better: Color-Blocking/Stripes

Occasion: Work
Shirt: Striped Shirt | Skirt: American Apparel | Belt: Thrifted

This is my late entry into Pretty Shiny Sparkly’s Bloggers Do It Better challenge, color-blocking or stripes. The sun was not out today in Austin, at least not when I got off work, so pardon the poor quality photo.
